Dog Stories - Meet Charlie!

Charlie’s real name is Teàrlaidh Dhu (pronounced CHAR-LEE DO) and it is Gaelic for "Charlie Black", but at home he’s simply known as “Charlie”.

He was born on 26 April 2003, one of three boys. Two were born as black puppies and one was born a brown puppy.

Charlie’s breed is Löwchen (pronounced lerv-chen) and is a German word meaning “little lion dog”. There are not very many lion dogs in New Zealand, but probably around 40-50. The Löwchen is a member of the Bichon family, which includes the breeds of Havanese, Bolognese, Maltese and Frise.

Charlie lives in a house with two grownups and one persian cat called Tuki. Both Tuki and Charlie like to chase each other. Charlie also likes to pick a number of things up, and hide them around the house, usually by stashing them behind the sofa. Socks and tissues are two of his favourite things.
